When your team goes all the way to the MAIS Class A quarterfinals, it’s no surprise that Porters Chapel would be represented at Friday’s MAIS All-Star Game at Jackson Prep.

But few could’ve imagined that the Eagles would get this level of representation, as center Talbot Buys, guard Alton Burden and forward Kawayne Gaston represent their school for the North squad.

The three seniors are the first from PCA to represent their school in the boys’ all-star game

“I think it says a lot about our program,” PCA coach E.J. Creel said. “We didn’t get as far as we would’ve liked, but we had a talented bunch of kids and I couldn’t be happier.”

Gaston averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds and Burden, who missed eight games with a sprained ankle, averaged 12 points and six assists. Talbot Buys, who manned the middle and averaged eight points and nine rebounds, rounds out the group.

The three have spent several days practicing with their new all-star teammates and Creel said the experience has been a good one for her senior trio.

“They’re definitely jacked up about it,” Creel said. “They’ve been doing well at practice and I think they’re going to have a great time.”

Tallulah Academy forward Jake Busby will also play in the All-Star game.
