2 killings in Louisiana; Winnsboro man sought

A Tallulah man and a Winnsboro man were killed in separate shootings in the past week, Louisiana police said this morning.

Two people have been arrested and were being held in the death of William D. Kirk Jr., 40, of Tallulah, who was killed at a Sondheimer home on Saturday, authorities said.

Arrested on charges of second-degree murder were Tanya Kirk, 36, William Kirk’s estranged wife, and Robert W. Russell, 26, both of Newellton. They were being held in the Riverbend Detention Center, Louisiana police said.

Separately, a Winnsboro man was being sought today by state police and sheriff’s departments in Tensas and Franklin parishes in a killing in Newellton.

Joshua Lee Temple, 28, was being pursued on foot in a wooded area near the Winnsboro Walmart, said Lt. Julie Lewis, public affairs officer for the state police.

Temple is wanted in the death of Colby Joe Fortenberry, 22, of Winnsboro.

Fortenberry, a bartender, was discovered dead in the Highway 4 Bar in Newellton where he worked.
