Maintaining our highways

Published 1:16 am Sunday, March 11, 2012

This is in response to a Letter to the Editor dated March 4, 2012, titled “I-20 at bridge dangerous.” Our number one goal at the Mississippi Department of Transportations (MDOT) is promoting the safe travel of our citizens and visitors. It is certainly my top priority as Transportation Commissioner. I regret the incident that Ms. Hall (no relation) experienced during her travels on I-20 at the Vicksburg Welcome Center. The MDOT staff was not aware of the problem until Ms. Hall’s letter to the editor appeared last week, and as soon as it was brought to their attention — it was promptly resolved.

It is my hope that Ms. Hall and her family will return to Mississippi and enjoy all the rich history, abundant natural resources and hospitality that it has to offer. Our highway system is one of the nation’s best — and that is an accomplishment that we take pride in and work diligently to maintain every day.

Sincerely,
