Early voting light in Warren County

Warren County voters were few and far between in early voting today in Mississippi’s primary election for president and other federal races.

Plenty of parking was available at Sherman Avenue School, where the Culkin precinct votes, and Vicksburg Junior High School, the county’s two largest precincts.

“Usually we have a line,” Culkin poll manager Jan Whatley said. “This time we had to say ‘Come on in and vote.’” Party officials reported 59 ballots cast in the first 45 minutes, 50 of them Republicans.

At the junior high, 13 had voted — four Republicans and nine Democrats, poll manager Deborah Washington said.

Philomena and Joe Zelasko were voting at Beechwood precinct, at Calvary Baptist Church on Mississippi 27.
