Services for Melvin Charles Sykes will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Word of Faith Christian Center with the Rev. Michael Prejean officiating. Burial will be Wednesday at the Sykes Family Cemetery in Madison, Ark. with W. H. Jefferson Funeral Home in charge. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Sykes died Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at his home. He was 58.

Mr. Sykes was employed at Waterways Experiment Station and was retired from the U.S. Marine Corps.

He was preceded in death by his father Malvin Sykes and a brother Lawrence Sykes.

Survivors include his wife, Nada Gibson Sykes of Vicksburg; three sons, Kyle A. Sykes of Jackson, Kevin Sykes of Vicksburg and Matthew Sykes of Lake Providence; his mother, Charlene D. Sykes of Madison, Ark.; his brother, Ralph Sykes of Los Angeles; and his sisters, Sherrye Blakely, Shirley Ingram and Iris Sykes-Williams, all of Helena, Ark., a grandson; and other relatives and friends.
