Warren Central’s roll was slowed by an old nemesis.
Clinton got all of its hits and all of its runs during a third-inning rally, and beat Warren Central 3-2 on Friday night. It was just the second loss in eight games for the Vikings (10-5, 2-1 Division 3-6A).
Clinton avenged a loss to Warren Central from the night before and has won five of its last six games against the Vikings.
Hunter Austin had an RBI double for WC and Brandon Gates an RBI single, but the Vikings were unable to take advantage of a host of opportunities. Clinton committed five errors in the game, yet WC only managed the two runs against Jake Weathersby.
Clinton (6-8, 3-1), meanwhile, made the most of its biggest scoring chance.
Cale Luke led off the bottom of the third with a double, then scored on a single by Gabe Waddell to tie the game at 1. Waddell moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and a ground out and scored on a base hit by Weathersby to put the Arrows in front.
Weathersby later scored on an error to give Clinton a 3-1 lead. WC got a run back in the fifth inning on Gates’ hit, but couldn’t tie it.
The third-inning trouble made a hard-luck loser out of WC pitcher Devon Bell. The senior allowed four hits and two earned runs, and struck out three in six innings.
