Firefighters returned at 7 a.m. today to extinguish a hotspot at a housefire initially reported at about 2 a.m. Wednesday, said Vicksburg fire Chief Charles Atkins.

The blaze destroyed the home at 119 Lovers Lane and remains under investigation, Atkins said.

The house was unoccupied and electricity had been disconnected after a tenant was evicted and was in the process of moving out, police Capt. Bobby Stewart said.

The home was fully involved when firefighters from Central Fire Station and stations on Cherry Street and Indiana Avenue arrived Wednesday morning, Atkins said. State fire marshals were assisting in the investigation, he said.

Atkins declined to release the name of the tenant while the investigation is continuing and did not know the name of the owner.

The home was the scene of an August 2009 arrest for manufacture of methamphetamine, but Stewart said today the fire is not suspected to be meth-related.

No injuries were reported, and no damage resulted to nearby homes, Atkins said.
