A trackhoe sits beside a historic marker for the Civil War in the South Loop of the Vicksburg National Military Park Thursday. A portion of the park was temporarily closed for a land-clearing project geared toward restoring the battlefield to its appearance during the Siege in 1863. The area is expected to reopen this weekend.
