Schools, parents must work together to solve problems

I was glad to have attended the meeting with Alderman Michael Mayfield, Vicksburg Warren School District Board of Trustees, Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Swinford and Warren County officials. The meeting was chaired by Mayor Paul Winfield. The meeting proved to be very productive and most informative.

Sometimes we can be misinformed. The old adage still holds true, “A little knowledge is a dangerous thing,” and our responses can be of a dangerous nature when we do not have all the information.

Youth Court Judge Johnny Price was there to inform us of some of the circumstances without calling any names. This gave us an entirely different picture of the happenings at Vicksburg High School.

We must do our part as parents. We have a large responsibility teaching our children to have pride and dignity in themselves. However, if they come in contact with others who do not have the same integrity, get out from around them and report it to the proper authority. When these things happen in the community, they must be handled in the community properly.

We send our children to school to get an education and that should be their main priority and concern. If we cannot do this who can and who will? We must start in the high chair so there will not be an electric chair. When schools and parents work together students can and will succeed. Let us come together for this worthy cause.
