Bond was set at half a million dollars Monday for a woman accused of fracturing the skull of a 6-month-old girl.

Leaning heavily on a cane in her right hand, Vontricia Fuller, 48, 1318 Spring St., broke down in tears when Municipal Judge Nancy Thomas announced her bail.

“Due to the injures and the charges, your bond will be set at $500,000,” Thomas said during bail hearing.

Fuller is accused of causing multiple skull fractures to a 6-month-old she was baby-sitting Sunday at her home. At the time the child was injured, police have said, Fuller was also caring for the girl’s 3-year-old brother, who was not reported injured.

On Sunday afternoon, Fuller called the child’s mother to report that the baby was unconscious. The mother rushed the child to River Region Medical Center. At 1:19 p.m. police were called to the hospital to investigate the injuries as child abuse. From River Region, she was taken to University Medical Center in Jackson where she remains in critical condition this morning, Vicksburg police Capt. Bobby Stewart said.

During her initial appearance, Fuller asked the court for an attorney and told Thomas that she was disabled and unemployed.
