A man and a woman were found shot to death Tuesday in the home they shared on Mississippi 27 just south of the Warren County line.

Barbara Doiron Raines, 51, and Robert “Bob” Varnum, 57, were found at 4812 Mississippi 27, said Raines’ father, Warren Doiron of Vicksburg.

“I’ve been up since 4:30 this morning hoping that this is a bad dream,” Doiron said.

The two were found by a process server who looked in a window of the home and saw a pair of feet on the floor and called 911 after no one answered the door, Doiron said.

“They had been dead a couple of days,” Doiron said.

Officials with the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department, which is investigating the killings, were in a meeting this morning and did not return calls for information.

Doiron said he heard about the homicides on the television news. He recognized his daughter’s address and called the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department.

Doiron said his daughter and Varnum lived in a relatively isolated area of Hinds County and he knew of no reason anyone would have to attack them.

“We don’t know why,” he said.

Both Raines and Varnum were divorced, Doiron said.

Varnum, who worked at LeTourneau Technologies since 2001, apparently had missed work for several days, Doiron said.

Doiron said this morning that his daughter is survived by two adult children, Sara Summer Raines of Jackson and Ryan Thomas Raines of Biloxi; her mother, Camille Doiron; a brother, Mark Doiron of Madison; and two sisters, Whitney Doiron of North Carolina and Sherry D. McBride of Vicksburg.

Varnum’s Facebook page says he has three children. One of those is listed as living in Varnum’s hometown, Du Quoin, Ill.

The Doiron family said this morning a memorial service for Raines will be Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home.

Funeral arrangements for Varnum had not been announced this morning.
