Raymond E. Ellis

Services for Raymond E. “Duck” Ellis will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, 1511 1/2 Lane St., with Pastor Roosevelt Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 7 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home with the family present from 6 until 7.

Mr. Ellis died Sunday, April 1, 2012, at his home. He was 71.

He was born in Vicksburg to Johnny Eastman and Gertrude Curry Washington. He attended Vicksburg public schools and took self-study courses. He was a welder for Marathon Shipbuilding for 13 years and retired as a deputy sheriff from the Warren County Sheriff’s Department after 23 years of service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, one sister and a grandson, Maurice DeFrances Williams.

Survivors include his wife, Mary J. Ellis; five daughters, Victoria, Rita, Francine, Joyce and Lois Ellis, all of Vicksburg; one brother, Curtis Ellis of Cleveland, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including Pastor Edmond E. Gibbs, Virgie Ellis and Elijah “Square” Parker.
