Vicksburg man, 29, charged with attempted molestation

A Vicksburg man accused of breaking into a home to molest an 11-year-old girl was held without bail today.

James Jefferson Jr., 29, 1201 South St., Apt. 207, was arrested at 12:58 p.m. Saturday at his home and charged with attempted molestation and burglary, police Capt. Bobby Stewart said.

Jefferson is accused of entering a home in the 1400 block of Hays Street at 7:01 a.m. and trying to molest the girl, Stewart said. Jefferson is an acquaintance of the family, and they were able to identify him before he fled, Stewart said.

Jefferson was being held in the Issaquena County Jail this morning pending his initial court appearance.

It could not be determined this morning if the suspect is any relation to Central District Justice Court Judge James Jefferson Jr.
