Margaret Ann Solomon

Margaret Ann “Marti” Solomon, 61, of Alabaster, Ala., died April 18, 2012, at the home of her brother, Phil Solomon, in Vicksburg after a long battle with cancer.

Marti was born to the late A.C. and Christine Wilson Solomon July 13, 1950, in Russellville, Ark. She graduated from H.V. Cooper High School in 1968 and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Mississippi College in 1972 and a MRE degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1974.

Marti retired from Woman’s Missionary Union, Auxiliary to the Southern Baptist Convention, (WMU) in 2005. She was a customer relations specialist, serving as liaison with state WMU offices, Lifeway Christian Stores and other special audiences. She served more than 15 years as Acteens Specialist for WMU, equipping teen girls and their church leaders for missions involvement. Prior to coming to WMU in 1979, she served as minister of youth at First Baptist Church, Kilgore, Texas, and earlier at Woodland Hills Baptist Church, Jackson, Miss.

She is survived by her brothers, Donald C. Solomon, Ph.D., (Mickey) of Suffolk, Va.; Phil Solomon (Mary Jane) of Vicksburg; nieces, Christy Walker (David) of Windsor, Va., Cherie Ramsey (Dave) of Lewisberry, Pa., Stephanie Wilson (Doug) of Vicksburg; nephew, Steven Solomon (Brittany) of Southaven; nine great-nieces; five great-nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April, 28, 2012, at Riles Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the hour of service. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorials be made to WMU Foundation Vision Fund, 100 Missionary Ridge, Birmingham, AL 35242, or your favorite charity.
