Miss Ross, Mr. Werkin to recite vows June 9

James and Mickey Ross of Vicksburg announce the engagement of their daughter, Katie Jane, to Jacob Andrew Werkin of Macon, Ga. Mr. Werkin is the son of Tim and Andrea Werkin of Sandersville, Ga.

Miss Ross is the granddaughter of Betty Matthews and the late George Matthews of Vicksburg and Bobbie Ross and the late Edwin Ross of Eupora.

Mr. Werkin is the grandson of Bob and Diane Werkin of Toronto, Ohio, and Barbara Jean Holmes and the late Dr. Dean Holmes of Sandersville.

The bride-elect is a 2006 graduate of Porters Chapel Academy, where she was a cheerleader and member of the Hall of Fame and National Honor Society.

She received a political science degree in 2010 from the University of Southern Mississippi with a minor in communications. She served as treasurer and vice president of Chi Omega sorority and was a member of Eagle Connection and Who’s Who Among American Colleges and Universities. She was homecoming chair and Miss Southern Miss student director for Student Government.

Miss Ross is head page for the Mississippi State Senate.

The prospective groom is a graduate of Washington County High School, where he was a member of the Honors Club and varsity baseball team.

He graduated cum laude in 2010 from the University of Georgia, where he received a degree in biological sciences. He was a Baptist Collegiate Ministries leader.

Mr. Werkin is a second-year medical student at Mercer University.

The wedding will be at 7 p.m. June 9, 2012, at Lakeland Presbyterian Church in Flowood. A reception will follow at the Jackson Yacht Club. All relatives and friends are invited to attend.
