A Warren County man and two women believed to be from Rolling Fork were killed Saturday in Washington County in a head-on collision on U.S. 61, south of Hollandale in Washington County.

George Jones, 72, whose address was listed as 150 Buford Drive, died when he was thrown from his 18-wheeler tractor trailer around 3 p.m., said Sgt. Ben Williams, public information officer with the Troop D Greenwood District of the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol. Jones was reportedly not wearing his seat belt.

The two women, Paris Buckner, 24, and Margaret Buckner, 54, were in a Honda Accord which was southbound and reportedly drifted over the center line and hit Jones’ truck, Williams said.

“They were killed instantly,” he said.

Local listings for 150 Buford Drive indicate Jones was the owner of Three Rivers Transit, and Williams said Jones was transporting a mobile home. He was not certain whether it was mounted on the trailer or directly attached and being pulled.

The tractor trailer was being escorted by a vehicle driven by Robert McCullough of Vicksburg, said Williams, adding that McCullough was not injured in the wreck.

Attempts to reach McCullough and Jones’ family Saturday night were unsuccessful.

Late Saturday, Williams said the Accord was registered to Paris Buckner, the driver, at a Rolling Fork residence. He had no other information on the two women involved, but said he believed Margaret Buckner was Paris’ mother.

An MHSP officer investigating the wreck declined to comment, saying “it is still under investigation.”
