Lady Flashes finish second

The St. Aloysius golf team finished second in the Class 1A State Tournament Tuesday in Canton.

St. Patrick won the team title with a 392. The Lady Flashes finished four strokes behind at 396.

In the final round, Laura Phillips shot a 95, followed by Beth Newman at 101, and Anna Fletcher had a 105. Rounding out the team were Anna Fletcher and Sarah Ruth Andrews. Phillips shot a two-day total of 191 to finish fourth in the individual standings.

Winning medalist honors was Pass Christian’s Hannah Mitchell at 160. Mitchell shot a 78 in the second round.

St. Aloysius leads Class 1A tourney

St. Aloysius dominated at the Class 1A state tournament in Tupelo on Tuesday, leading the tournament with a team score of 326. Ingomar is a distant second with a 351. Nick Mekus paced the Flashes with a 72 and Sam Andrews shot an 80. Gabriel Riveros carded an 85 while Elliott Bexley shot an 89.

WC cards a 349 in Class 6A tourney

Warren Central’s Parker Rutherford shot a 79 on the first day of competition in Hattiesburg at the Class 6A state golf tournament. McKay Harris was second for the Vikings with an 83, helping lead WC to a team total of 349.

Northwest Rankin leads the tournament with a 303, paced by J.P. Dumas with a 71 and Brandon Blakeney, who carded a 74. Low score of the day was Oak Grove’s Grant Motter, who carded a 66.

Zach Myers, from Ocean Springs, was the other golfer to card a score in the 60s with a 69.
