Mary Ann Jackson Truitt

Mary Ann Jackson Truitt was born March 2, 1967, in Vicksburg to Viola Rush Jackson and Percy Leroy Mays Sr. She passed away Monday, May 7, 2012.

She was a 1985 graduate of Vicksburg High School, where she was active on the varsity basketball team. She was affectionately known as “Pro” by team members because of her street-style playing technique. She attended Hinds Community College in Raymond and earned training from Job Corps in Batesville. She was employed by the Isle of Capri (formerly Rainbow Casino) for 12 years as a lead deli attendant. She was a member of Bypass Church of Christ, U.S. 61 North.

She was preceded in death by her mother; father; grandparents, Jerry and Winnie Rush Clark and Frank and Martha Mays Barnes; a brother, Michael Jackson; and a great-nephew, Deltaurus Holmes.

She leaves to cherish her memories one son, Charles Jr.; one daughter, Chantae; a granddaughter, Jakia; her sisters, Mary Jackson Wilson, Claretha Jackson and her twin, Ann Mary Jackson Nunnally (Therington), Alma Jackson Holden of San Francisco, Calif., Vanessa Jackson Harris of Memphis and several sisters from Texas; her sister/niece, Doris Wilson Butler of Lithia Springs, Ga.; her brothers, Len, Carl, Jerry and James Jackson (Pamela), all of Vicksburg, Percy “Sonny” Mays Jr. (Bobbie) of Port Gibson and Bennie Mays (Glenda) of Fort Worth, Texas; an uncle, Leonard Rush (Margaret) of Killeen, Texas; her best friend, Delores Yates DeFrance; her in-laws, Joe Nathan Truitt, Mary Truitt Carson (James) and Terrance Truitt (Mary N.); a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; the Mays, Rush, Judge, Richardson and Young families; and other family friends, including the Dorothy Harris family of Vicksburg and the Flora Johnson family of San Francisco.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Christ (I-20 Frontage Road) with Dr. Willie Nettle officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 1 until 6 p.m. at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home with family hour from 5 until 6.
