A Vicksburg man will stand trial in March for aggravated driving under the influence for his role in a wreck in January that killed a Vicksburg nurse and injured another woman.

Julius Hebron, 63, 104 Hillside Circle, waived arraignment Friday and entered a not guilty plea after being indicted by the May term of the Warren County Grand Jury for two counts of aggravated DUI causing injury or death. His trial is set for March 18, and he could face five to 25 years in prison if convicted.

Hebron is accused in the Jan. 2 wreck on Halls Ferry Road at North Frontage that killed Andrea Michelle “Shelly” Guider, 34, 105 Grey Oaks Drive, and injured Ann Elliot, 49, 6016 Indiana Ave., on Jan. 2.

Aggravated DUI is defined by state law as “death, mutilation, disfigurement or other injury … caused in a negligent manner” while driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Witnesses said Hebron was driving north on Halls Ferry when he ran the stop light North Frontage Road, striking the front driver’s side of a car driven by Guider, a nurse at River Region Medical Center, who was pronounced dead at the crash site. Her car struck a car driven by Elliot, who was treated and released from River Region Medical Center.

A blood sample taken from Hebron and tested at the Mississippi state crime lab, showed at the time of the crash his blood alcohol level was .20 percent, according to court records. A breath sample taken by Patrolman Eric Paymon showed a breath alcohol content of .13. The legal limit for driving a noncommercial vehicle in Mississippi is .08.

In another case, Willie McCoy, 60, 100 Brister Road, was indicted on two counts of aggravated assault in a March 4 shooting at Sunrise Mart, 20 Freetown Road.

Kayla Allen, 200 block of Lampkin Mountain Road, was shot in the abdomen and leg following an argument between Allen and his granddaughters.

The grand jury was selected and sworn in Monday. Jurors reviewed evidence in 118 criminal cases against 128 individuals. Jurors returned indictments in 98 of the cases and no-bills, meaning not enough evidence to go to trial, in four cases. Four cases were continued to the next term. One case was reduced to a misdemeanor, and another was dismissed by the state.
