JACKSON — “Such a Lady,” said one beloved friend… “Yes she was.” Ruth Lane, 86, passed away surrounded by family and a priest, Sunday, May 27, 2012, at home in Jackson. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 2, with a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. at St. Richard Catholic Church. Burial will be at Lakewood Memorial Park.

She was born Ruth Claire Valentine on Nov. 6, 1925, in Claiborne County and was raised in Vicksburg. She attended St. Francis Xavier Academy in Vicksburg, Ursuline College in New Orleans and graduated from All Saints’ Episcopal College in Vicksburg. Ruth married George P. Lane Jr. on June 4, 1945; later they moved to Jackson where Mrs. Lane flourished as a homemaker.

Being a very active and social person, Mrs. Lane was involved in memberships and clubs: Jackson Symphony League, Mississippi Museum of Art, Talisman Federated Club, Sherwood Forest Garden Club, Colonial Ladies Golf Association (Colonial Country Club 9-hole group), St. Dominic Hospital Auxiliary and St. Monica Circle at St. Richard of Chichester Catholic Church. She enjoyed painting in oil, going to art exhibits, playing the piano, going to the symphony and dancing. “Mom and Dacka are dancing in heaven,” as her granddaughter said.
