Arrests related to drugs kept Warren County and Vicksburg law enforcement officers hopping Wednesday.
Lester Miller, 22, 1623 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., was arrested at 2:18 p.m. Wednesday and charged with sale of cocaine, possession of crack and possession of a firearm after felony conviction, police Capt. Bobby Stewart said.
Miller was arrested following a traffic stop in the 1700 block of Martin Luther King where narcotics officers recognized him as having an outstanding warrant, Stewart said.
Miller was leaving his girlfriend’s residence at 2727 Alcorn Drive, and he had crack at the time of his arrest, Stewart said. A shotgun was recovered from the woman’s residence, leading to the weapons charge, Stewart said.
Miller was held without bond this morning.
In Warren County, a woman convicted of drug charges was arrested for parole violation after she was believed to be involved in a wreck on Lee Road at about 8:45 Wednesday evening.
Tammie Dianne Coker, 35, who gave a Pearl address but might live in Warren County, Sheriff Martin Pace said, was jailed on a warrant.
Her arrest came after a man with whom she was traveling told deputies he was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Blazer when he lost control and ran off the road in the 4400 block of Lee Road, Pace said. A purse and other items in the Blazer belonged to Coker, and deputies discovered she had been driving, Pace said.
Coker was arrested at 4425 Lee Road a short time later, Pace said. It is unclear how long Coker has been in Warren County, Pace said.
Coker was convicted previously of possession of precursor chemicals, Pace said. She was held this morning without bail in the Warren County Jail.
In a third drug case, a Vicksburg man was charged after being stopped for not wearing his seat belt.
Lenard Dewayne Herndell, 21, 3719 Parkview St., was arrested around 8:50 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant from the District Attorney’s Office for possession of marijuana, Pace said.
Herndell was stopped on Blossom Lane by Deputy Weston Watts, Pace said.
Herndell had failed to show up for a March court date, Pace said.
Herndell was arrested by Vicksburg police in February 2011and charged with possession of marijuana following a report that he was suspected of shoplifting at Fred’s Dollar Store, 3429 Halls Ferry Road.
