Robert E. Smith died Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at River Region Medical Center. He was 76.

Born in Benton, Miss., he was a longtime resident of Vicksburg and the son of the late Willie Smith and Lida Harrell Smith.

Mr. Smith was employed by Waggener Auto Parts for a number of years and later owned and operated Smith’s Grocery and Garage. He was a member of Bovina Baptist Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Pam Smith and Karen Craft, both of Vicksburg; three sisters, Maxine Douglas, Nadine Rozier and Linda Smith; and three brothers, Billy Smith, Harrell Smith and Don Smith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Whitehead Smith; and a sister, Helen Gordon.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Mitchell Smith officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Friday until the service.

Pallbearers will be Jesse Thomas, Phillip Jones Jr., Glenn Martin, Jimmy Ward, Ellis Gordon, Jereme Smith, Charles Byrd and Glen Kittrell.

Honorary pallbearers will be Otto Moore, Van Van Landingham, Ellis Gordon Jr., James Smith, Eddie “Nan” Williams, Rowdy Nosser and Dr. Anita Tribble.
