The Jackson Generals ripped 13 hits to blast the Mississippi Braves 11-4 Thursday at Trustmark Park.
Joseph Dunigan and Johermyn Chavez drove in three runs apiece to lead the Generals (9-6, 51-34).
The M-Braves (6-9, 34-51) got two hits each from Phil Gosselin and Jordan Parraz. Parraz also drove in two runs.
Mississippi had a pair of early leads, the last at 3-2 in the third inning when the Generals came roaring back. Jackson scored seven unanswered runs over a three-inning stretch to take a 9-3 lead.
The M-Braves trimmed the margin to 9-4 in the bottom of the sixth after an RBI double from Parraz, but could get no closer.
Taijuan Walker (5-4) tossed five innings, limiting the M-Braves to three earned runs on five hits and two walks. He struck out four batters to pick up his fifth win of the season. David Hale (6-4) worked five innings for the M-Braves and suffered the loss. He gave up nine earned runs on 10 hits, two homers and one walk while striking out seven batters.
In game three of a six-game homestand, lefty Sean Gilmartin (5-6, 3.48 ERA) squares off against right-hander Brandon Maurer (5-2, 3.81). First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
At least it was a good day for former M-Braves pitcher Luis Avilan. He was promoted to the Atlanta Braves from Class AAA Gwinnett Thursday. Avilan becomes the 65th former M-Brave to reach the major leagues and the fifth this season.
Avilan appeared in 16 games this season with Mississippi, including 12 starts.
