A Vicksburg man caught towing a stolen car was held without bail today, Sheriff Martin Pace said.

Willie Qualls, 39, 1414 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., was arrested around 8:15 a.m. Tuesday and charged with auto theft, Pace said.

Qualls was driving a pickup and hauling a 1979 Chevrolet truck that was stolen from a home in the 1300 block of Freetown Road, Pace said.

About 8 a.m. Tuesday a relative of the truck’s owner saw Qualls towing it south on Freetown Road and called 911, Pace said. Within minutes Sgt. Mike Marshall stopped Qualls and a passenger, who has not been charged, at Mississippi 27 and U.S. 80, Pace said.

The theft is still under investigation, Pace said.

Qualls was held in the Warren County Jail awaiting his initial appearance in justice court.

At the time of his arrest, Qualls was out on bail following an indictment in January for aggravated assault.
