A convicted drug dealer accused of transporting a half-pound of marijuana was held without bail today, Sheriff Martin Pace said.

Travis Maurice Malone, 30, 136 Cumberland Road, surrendered to his parole officer at 4:30 p.m. Monday and was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, Pace said.

Malone had been paroled from prison in September after serving around a year and a half for sale of cocaine, according to Mississippi Department of Corrections records.

On July 11, Malone was driving a 2005 Chrysler 300 on U.S. 80 near Mount Alban Road when he was stopped by Deputy Mario Grady for a traffic violation, Pace said. As the car came to a stop, Malone jumped out and fled, Pace said.

“There was a small amount of marijuana visible in the vehicle,” Pace said.

The car was towed to the sheriff’s office, where deputies found the half-pound of marijuana in a fender well, Pace said.

Malone was held without bail this morning in the Warren County Jail. Malone also is being held for MDOC, Pace said.
