Thomas Lee Forrest Jr. of Vicksburg died Monday, July 16, 2012, at River Region Medical Center after a short illness. He was 87 years old.
Mr. Forrest was born Oct. 2, 1924, and raised in Tunica, Miss. He played freshman football at Mississippi State University and graduated from there in 1949. He was an Eagle Scout and a Sea Scout.
He served in the Air Force as a bombardier during World War II. He was a civil engineer and retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1974 after 25 years of service. He was an active member of the Vicksburg YMCA. His hobbies were fishing, hunting, amateur radio, square dancing, woodworking, genealogy and golf.
He was very active in First Presbyterian Church of Vicksburg, where he had been a member since 1966 and served as an elder.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Lee Forrest Sr.; and his mother, Nora Sellars.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Norma Powell Forrest of Vicksburg; son, Wayne Forrest (Sally) of Vicksburg; granddaughter, Jenny Winders (Cory) of Madison; granddaughter, Leanne Jones (Nathan) of Vicksburg; and great-grandchildren, Parker and Catelyn Winders.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Glenwood Funeral Home, and the funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 19, at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Tim Brown officiating.
