Moylan, M-Braves earn big victory

The Mississippi Braves broke a 2-2 tie with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a 5-3 win over the Mobile BayBears at Trustmark Park Tuesday.

Atlanta Braves submariner Peter Moylan (1-0), worked 11⁄3 innings in his M-Braves’ debut to pick up the win. The Australian, making his first appearance of his rehab stint from back surgery, struck out one batter, tossing 19 pitches with 13 for strikes.

Joe Leonard led the M-Braves with a 2-for-4 night at the plate and drove in two runs.

The Braves took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Todd Cunningham walked and took second on a groundout. Leonard followed with an RBI single to center field.

The BayBears took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third when their pitcher Mike Bolsinger launched a solo home run to left off M-Braves’ starter Sean Gilmartin, who didn’t factor into Tuesday’s decision.

With two outs in the bottom of the third, the M-Braves replied. Christian Marrero walked and Leonard doubled on a fly ball over the centerfielder’s head to tie the game at 2-2. Mississippi plated three runs in the seventh. Alden Carrithers singled and scored on a Cunningham double to left field. Cunningham moved to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a groundout by Christian Bethancourt. Joey Terdoslavich reached on a error and came in to score on Marrero’s single to center field.
