Myrtle Johnson Chong

A Mass of Christian burial for Myrtle “Duce” Johnson Chong will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Malcolm O’Leary officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 7 p.m. Thursday with rosary at 6 p.m. at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home and Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until the service.

Mrs. Chong died Sunday, July 29, 2012, at Promise Hospital. She was 78.

Mrs. Chong was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg and a graduate of St. Mary’s Catholic School and Utica Junior College. She attended Alcorn State University. She was retired from Sears.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Chong; a son, Mark A. Johnson; parents, Jessie Sr. and Mary Warren Johnson; two brothers, W.L. “Mickey” Johnson and Jessie Johnson Jr.; and a sister, Lois J. Lee.

Survivors include her two sons, Josef Johnson of Whittier, Calif., and Cecil Johnson of Horn Lake; four sisters, Esther Taylor of San Diego, Doris Jacobs of Vacherie, La., Gayle Lee of Jackson and Brenda Johnson of Santa Clarita, Calif.; one brother, Darrell Johnson of Vicksburg; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
