A fishing boat heads south on the Yazoo River Diversion Canal near Vicksburg’s City Front just before sunset Sunday. The level of the canal, which meets the Mississippi River near DiamondJacks Casino, is dependent on that of the river, which was at 0.5 feet this morning as it continues to drop to near-record lows, following months of heat and little rain in climes north of the city.
