William Wallace Raines

William Wallace Raines died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, at his home. He was 90.

Mr. Raines was born in Sondheimer on Dec. 21, 1921. He had worked as a farmer, logger and a mechanic for Vicksburg Ford and Chevrolet. He was a foreman for Vicksburg Chemical for 30 years. He enjoyed woodworking during his retirement. Wallace served in World War II in the 9th Air Force, 7th Depot Squadron in England, France, Belgium and Germany.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanese Matthews Raines; his brothers, Earl Raines and Thomas Raines; his sisters, Aleen Bankhead, Johnnie Hill, Laura Jones, Maxie Gastrell, Dorothy Allen and Barbara Smith.

He is survived by his children, Len Raines and Pam May (Carl), all of Vicksburg; his grandchildren, Shelle Raines Culler (Bryant) of Superior, Colo., and Justin May of Vicksburg; his great-grandchildren, Oakley May-Sauntry of Vicksburg and Liam Culler of Superior; his sister-in-law, Bobbie Harbin of Vicksburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Wade officiating. Visitation will be from 9 until 11 a.m. Saturday at Glenwood Funeral Home.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Parker, Steve Barnes, Carl May, Justin May, Bryant Culler and Paul Harbin.

In lieu of flowers, make a donation to the charity of choice.
