He was a native of Rolling Fork and was ordained a minister on Aug. 10, 1936, at St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church in Columbus, Ga.

He was a Mason and a member of the National Supreme Council of Sovereign Grand Inspectors-General of the 33rd and last degree of Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Freemasonry.

He was a member of the United Auto Workers Union Local 429 and worked as inspector of the cleaning room department at the New Haven Foundry, New Haven, Mich.

When Rev. Dennis and his wife, Margaret, married in 1984, he told her he would build a monument to her and their faith in God. The result was a colorful castle called Margaret’s Grocery, built using multicolored painted concrete blocks, Styrofoam balls and blocks, cardboard tubes, hand-lettered signs, bottle caps and other common items.

Survivors include a daughter, Cora Dennis of Brooklyn, N.Y., and other relatives and friends, including Robbie Fisher and Suzi Altman of Jackson.
