Tetanus shots free for Isaac victims

Free tetanus vaccinations are being made available to residents of Warren, Claiborne, Hinds and 45 other counties affected by Hurricane Isaac, the Mississippi State Department of Health announced Monday.
The Tdap vaccinations, which inoculate against tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis, are recommended if 10 years or more have passed since the most recent tetanus vaccination.
If a puncture or wound has been contaminated by floodwater, individuals are urged consult their current health-care provider.
Parents who take their children to one of the counties’ health departments for the shots should have their children’s shot history record and be prepared to answer questions about allergies.
The Warren County Health Department, 807 Monroe St., is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
