Robert Daniel O’Bannon

Robert Daniel O’Bannon of Baton Rouge, La., died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at Hospice Ministries in Baton Rouge. He was 82.
Mr. O’Bannon was born in Vicksburg. He started working as a deckhand on a riverboat at a young age, and was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army as a cook. After leaving the Army, he returned to the merchant marine and retired as a mate.
He was of the Methodist Faith and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Benjamin O’Bannon and Sarah Mann O’Bannon; a brother, Thomas O’Bannon; sister-in-law, Leona O’Bannon; and a nephew, Pat O’Bannon.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene O’Bannon of Baton Rouge; two sons, Thomas (Mindy) O’Bannon and Robert O’Bannon; two daughters, Debyra O’Bannon and Dana (Sidney) Kelley; three sisters, Janie (Bill) Curtis, Patsy Landers and Connie (Charles) Anderson; a brother, Johnnie Ruth O’Bannon; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Mitchell Cochren officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday from 1 p.m. until the service.
Pallbearers will be Sidney Kelley, Fred Montgomery, Benjamin Brooks, Mike Curtis, Pete O’Bannon and David O’Bannon.
