Rocky Springs Church to host gospel singing

The historic Rocky Springs Church on the Natchez Trace will host a gospel singing at 11 a.m. Oct. 13.
The Methodist church at Rocky Springs was built in about 1837, but the congregation got its start before 1806, historians note, when a Methodist congregation met regularly in the town. A log cabin is thought to have stood previously on the site of the building, and records show itinerant ministers stopped there before 1800.
After 173 years of continuous services, Rocky Springs was de-consecrated June 30, 2010, and ownership of the building was transferred to a nonprofit Friends of Rocky Springs Church.
During the latter 1700s and into the 1800s, Rocky Springs was a thriving community on the Old Natchez Trace.
