Matthew Parker Jr. died Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at River Region Medical Center. He was 70.

Mr. Parker was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg and a retired construction worker.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gwendolyn Parker; and his parents, Matthew Parker Sr. and Rosie Lee Smith Parker.

Survivors include his stepdaughter, Ethel Renee Jones of Vicksburg; a stepson, Craig Donnell Buchanan of Vicksburg; four brothers, Roosevelt Parker and Leonard Bell, both of Vicksburg, Willie Parker of Opelika, Ala., and Herman Parker of Vallejo, Calif.; two sisters, Jessie Martin of Atlanta and Rosie Harris of Vallejo; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at noon Saturday at King David No. 1 M.B. Church with the Rev. A.L. Hines officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until 6 p.m. Friday with the family present from 5 until 6 at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home.
