An accused burglar was held without bail this morning and his accomplice was on the lam after being chased though Vicksburg National Military Park, Sheriff Martin Pace said.

Gregory Dewayne Wright, 21, 209 Sky Farm Ave., was arrested Monday evening and charged with auto burglary.

About 6 p.m. Monday, a woman who had parked her car on Howell Lane off Sherman Avenue reported that her purse had been stolen from the vehicle, Pace said.

Deputies and park rangers were notified of the burglary, and rangers caught Wright and another person in the park within minutes, Pace said. Wright’s accomplice escaped and was still at large this morning, Pace said.

Wright was in the Warren County Jail without bail awaiting his initial appearance in justice court.
