MAIS: Prairie View at Tallulah Academy, 7 p.m. Friday
Records: Prairie View (3-6); Tallulah Academy (3-6)
Tallulah Academy: The Trojans haven’t strayed far from their ground-and-pound approach on offense this season. They’ve attempted nearly 400 running plays while throwing just 19 passes. Coach Frank Lloyd said there are better passers coming through the junior high ranks, but this year’s quarterback, Tyler Boyett, was better suited to run the ball.
“I don’t have a traditional quarterback on the football team, so you do what you have to. On any given play, we’re much more likely to be successful running the ball than throwing it,” Lloyd said. “The reason for those numbers is not by design. It’s by necessity.”
Prairie View: The Spartans have not only lost six straight games after starting 3-0, the losses have gotten progresively worse. They were shut out in four consecutive games and have surrendered at least 40 points in all six losses.
Noteworthy: Tallulah quarterback Tyler Boyett is expected to return this week after missing two games with an arm injury. He has rushed for 605 yards and 11 TDs this season, and completed 6 of 12 passes.
