Vicksburg head coach Tavares Johnson Sr. collapsed Friday on the sideline near the east end zone after trying to break up an on-field brawl between the Gators and the Murrah High Mustangs.
After the fight was broken up by coaches from both teams and the Vicksburg police department, Johnson was attended to on the field by an EMT response staff until an ambulance arrived. He was taken to River Region Medical Central late Friday night, River Region spokesman Allen Karel said.
His condition was undetermined. Family members said that he was going to remain overnight for observation.
