MHSAA Region 4-1A: Hinds AHS at Cathedral, 7 p.m. Friday

Records: Hinds AHS (5-4, 3-4 Region 4-1A); Cathedral (5-3, 4-3)

Hinds AHS: Seemingly out of the playoff race a few weeks ago, Hinds AHS has clawed its way back in with a two-game winning streak. The War Dawgs can sneak into the postseason as the No. 4 seed from Region 4-1A if they win their last two games and Dexter loses its last two. They might also get in via a three-way tiebreaker if they win both games and Dexter splits.

Hinds’ four region losses have been by a total of 27 points.

“The bottom line is, we’ve got to win. We don’t need to think about anything else,” Hinds coach Michael Fields said. “I don’t have any regrets. At the beginning of the season, I thought we were a .500 ballclub. We’ve overachieved and the kids have played hard. Either way it goes, I’m happy.”

Cathedral: Cathedral has won three of its last four games, but needs a win over Hinds to secure a playoff berth. The Green Wave would clinch the No. 4 seed with a win Friday, coupled with a Dexter loss to Mount Olive, or by winning its last two games.
