PORT GIBSON — Clyde Luther Nelson Jr., retired farmer and cattleman, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Luther Nelson Sr. and Josie McCaa Nelson; his brother, John Edward Nelson; and his son, Nelson R. McCaa.

He was the owner of Hermitage Farms and an avid hunter. He was a faithful member of St. James Episcopal Church. He was a graduate of Port Gibson High School and Mississippi State University where he was a member of Lambda Chi Fraternity.

For several years he was chairman of the Farmer’s Security Association, board member of the Farmer’s Co-op, a charter member of Mosswood Country Club, a member of Mississippi Cattlemen’s Association and Mississippi Forestry Association.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Charles Humphreys Nelson; their children, Percy McCaa, Cissy LaRoche, Ruthie Bicker, Charles McCaa, Katy Campbell, Clare Burnett and Clyde Bean; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Marjo Lauderdale.

Visitation will be tonight, Oct. 29, 2012, from 5 until 7 at Glenwood Funeral Home in Port Gibson. Services will be at St. James Episcopal Church on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at 2 p.m. with visitation from 1 until 2 p.m. at the church.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Chris Campbell, Bradley McCaa, Cooper Campbell, Jim Kime, Trent McCaa, Chad McCaa, Alan McCaa, John Robert Burnett, Scott McCaa, Luke Burnett and Sanders Ott.
