Cordes seeking position on election commission

Gordon Cordes has announced his candidacy for Warren County Election Commission in District 5.

Cordes, 76, is opposed on the Nov. 6 general election ballot by incumbent commissioner Lonnie Wooley and Robert Croisdale.

An engineer, Cordes retired as director of safety and occupational health for the Mississippi Valley Division of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Cordes pledged to provide voter stewardship with accurate and current addresses and precincts for registered voters in the district.

The commission enrolls voters, assigns polling places, certifies non-party candidates, conducts all general and special elections and certifies results to the Secretary of State’s Office. Members of the panel are elected every four years during the presidential election cycle.
