Entergy, volunteers make program shine

United Way of West Central Mississippi would like to thank our volunteer readers who participated in the “Starting off on the Right Book” reading project.

In October our volunteers visited 12 kindergarten classes throughout the city to read “Should I Share My Ice Cream?”. Thanks to a generous grant from Entergy, the volunteer readers were able to leave one book for every child in the class.

Thank you to the principals and teachers who opened their classes for this fun project and allowed us to get a glimpse at how much is being learned in kindergarten classrooms all across Vicksburg. Reading is the first step in children learning to make a difference in their communities and United Way is very grateful that because of such generous volunteers we can be a part of the journey.
