Alcorn tops Oakwood to win season opener

LORMAN — Anthony Nieves scored 18 points, LeAntwan Luckett added 15, and Alcorn State opened its season with an 85-41 rout of Oakwood on Sunday.

Oakwood, which plays out of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association, counted the game as an exhibition.

Alcorn State took a 21-point lead into halftime, then outscored Oakwood 47-24 in the second half.

Anthony Evans added 12 points for Alcorn, which will get a much stiffer test Tuesday when it plays at No. 15 Missouri.
