Three people accused in the 2009 slaying of a Cary woman and her 3-year-old daughter were in jail this morning.
Sharkey County Sheriff Lindsey Adams Jr. declined to release any information on the case this morning, but said more details were expected to be made public this afternoon. The three were arrested Monday.
The bodies of Karitha Carroll, 31, and her 3-year-old daughter, Jamaya Carroll, were discovered Sept. 23, 2009, in their home on U.S. 61 in Sharkey County.
Sharkey County Coroner Angelia Eason said the two had been dead for about 12 hours when Karitha Carroll’s uncle, Tony Stamps found their bodies.
Karitha Carroll was found on a bedroom floor with multiple stab wounds to her chest, defensive wounds on her arms and slash wounds to her throat, and Jamaya was found in the bed with a slash wound on her neck and another on her right arm.
Wounds indicated that Karitha Carroll had fought with her attacker, but it is believed she knew the person because her body was found in the bedroom and there were few signs of a struggle in the living room, Eason said in 2009.
A number of suspects had been investigated in the killing, and investigators also looked into the possibility of a murder-suicide.
