3 accused of kidnapping to stand trial in September

Three men accused of kidnapping and robbing women they met at a casino will stand trial in September.
Cedric Akiti, 24, 5416 Mimosa Drive, Jackson, Felix Howard, 29, 825 Boston Road, Pearl; and Perry McAbee, 23, 1313 Florence Ave.; appeared before Circuit Court Judge Isadore Patrick Friday afternoon to be arraigned after an indictment by the Warren County grand jury for vehicle burglary, two counts of kidnapping and two counts of armed robbery.
Patrick set the trial for Sept. 16. The arraignments were made public Tuesday following the Veterans Day holiday.
The three men are accused of kidnapping two Monroe, La., women outside Waffle House, 70 Warrenton Road, at 12:45 a.m. May 13. According to the indictment, one of the men forced the women at gunpoint into a blue and silver Dodge Magnum registered to Howard.
Police said descriptions of the gunman given by the women match that of Akiti.
The men drove the women to the 4200 block of Rifle Range Road where they where they were forced to hand over their purses and cellphones, according to court records. The women were released uninjured, and when they returned to Waffle House they discovered their 2007 Chevrolet HHR had been burglarized, according to court records.
A credit card stolen from the vehicle was later used to purchase an iPod at a Walmart in Jackson, according to court records.
Akiti, Howard and McAbee were identified from casino surveillance video and arrested May 16.
In another arraignment Friday, a Vicksburg man accused of stealing a case of chicken wings will stand trial in September.
Douglas Howard, 47, 1603 Military Ave., was arraigned Friday by Patrick after an indictment for burglary as a habitual offender. Patrick set trial for Sept. 16.
Howard is accused of stealing a case of Tyson mild chicken wings, assorted candy and clothing from Hotdog Man, 1710 Monroe St., March 28. Hotdog Man is one block south of Vicksburg police headquarters. Howard surrendered May 30, and charges were dropped against Derrick Chiplin, 38, 1312 ½ Bowmar Ave., after Howard said Chiplin had no knowledge of the break-in, according to court records.
Howard was convicted of business burglary in 2000 and malicious mischief in 2008.
In another arraignment Friday, a Vicksburg man accused of ordering his dog to attack a paramedic will stand trial in May.
Kenard Younger, 31, 901 Speed St., was arraigned Friday by Patrick, who set trial for May 28.
Younger is accused of ordering his pit bull to attack Vicksburg paramedic Lt. Daniel Norwood Sept. 1.
Norwood was attempting to examine Younger, whom police officers had hit twice with a Taser, before the attack occurred, according to court records. Younger was shot with the Taser by officers after he became aggressive during a disturbance at a home on Spring Street, according to court records.

• Clayton Jones, 46, 55 Red Hawk Road — conspiracy to commit a felony; possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, Sept. 15.
