Two Vicksburg men caught within hours of each other trying to steal the same television were in jail this morning, Vicksburg police Capt. Bobby Stewart said.

Johnathan Phelps, 24, 1527 South St., and Antonio Knight, 23, 1314 E. Magnolia St., were both charged with burglary after a woman found them attempting to steal a 60-inch LG television from her home in the 1500 block of South Street, police Capt. Bobby Stewart said.

Phelps was found inside the home when the woman returned at 5:03 p.m. Thursday, Stewart said. He had attempted to move the television, which is valued at $1,000, but the homeowner saw him and he fled, Stewart said. Phelps was arrested shortly after at his home, Stewart said.

When the woman returned home at 8:14 a.m. today, Stewart said, she found Knight carrying the television in front of her home, Stewart said.

It was unclear this morning if the two burglaries were related, Stewart said. The television was recovered and returned to the homeowner.

Phelps was held this morning in the Issaquena County Correctional Facility in lieu of $75,000 bail. Knight was held without bail awaiting his initial appearance in Vicksburg Municipal Court.
