Search on for missing runner, ‘Rocket Man’

Deputies and family members were searching late Saturday night for a handicapped Warren County man missing since that morning.

Bradley Monk, 37, 6600 Oak Ridge Road, known as an avid runner who has competed in the Run Thru History for years, was last seen at Bovina Grocery, 401 Tiffintown Road, at about 9 a.m.

“We’ve had units riding all day on the roads in the area where he was last seen,” Sheriff Martin Pace said. “We have no reason to believe there’s foul play, but obviously we’re concerned.”

Monk, known to his fellow members of the Mississippi Track Club as “Rocket Man,” suffers from Parkinson’s disease and possibly other neurological disorders, said his mother, JoAnn Monk.

“He falls a lot without warning,” she said. “He wears glasses and cannot see well and when he falls, he falls backwards.”

“He was walking this morning when a neighbor gave him a ride to the grocery,” Pace said Saturday night. “The neighbor had to go to Bolton on business and told Monk he’d be back shortly.”

Pace said when the neighbor returned, Monk was gone.

After reviewing store videotape, Pace said Monk spent only a few minutes in the grocery. He was wearing grey sweat pants and a grey, long-sleeve Run Thru History T-shirt and a dark green watch.

Monk is about 5-foot-9, medium build and has dark hair.

“Family members have been out there, handing out pictures of him,” Pace said. “We’ve entered him into the National Crime Information Center as missing and possibly endangered.”

Pace said anyone who sees Monk should call the Warren County Sheriff’s Department at 601-636-1761.
