Second-grade teacher Ida Allen and several of her students were in the hallway just before noon reflecting on the year while waiting on the buses to arrive.

“We’ve had a great year of learning and fun,” she said. “I’m pleased with the growth that my students have made throughout this year. I truly believe they’re ready for third grade.”

Despite the amazing year, Allen said she is looking forward to summer break.

“I am looking forward to getting some rest and visiting some family and friends this summer,” she said.

Summer break will also allow Allen to get ready for another year and a new batch of students.

“I’m looking forward to a new group of second-graders,” she said. “I’m excited for some fun, new learning adventures.

Jazmine Williams, 8, said she is looking forward to summer but she will miss her friends and her teacher.

“This summer I’m going to the beach,” she said.

Williams said she’ll also be attending some summer camps, including one at Crossway Church.

“You get to pick six activities at the camp,” she said.

Williams said she is looking forward to third grade and getting a new, fun teacher.

Jazmine’s twin, Jada Williams, said her favorite thing she learned this year was how to write in cursive.

“I’m excited for this summer,” she said. “I get to go to summer camps and to Biloxi beach.”

Samantha Flores, 9, said she had fun this year.

“I liked math, and I liked to be here with my teacher and my friends,” she said.

Flores said she has some big plans for this summer.

“I’m going to Mexico to go see my dad,” she said. “I’m excited to see him.”
