Griffey named Post’s editor

Jan Griffey has been named editor of The Vicksburg Post and affiliated publications. She began work at The Post Wednesday.
Griffey, a Natchez native, most recently worked as associate publisher and editor of The Natchez Democrat. In Vicksburg, she will serve as editor of The Post, vicksburgpost.com and other products that fall under the company’s flag.
“We are thrilled to have someone with Jan’s experience come to Vicksburg and lead our news products,” Post publisher Tim Reeves said. “She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience of producing some of the best community newspapers — not only in Mississippi — but in other communities throughout her career.”
Griffey is a 1980 graduate of South Natchez-Adams High School and a 1984 graduate of the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette, La.
Griffey’s first newspaper job was in 1981 as an intern with The Democrat. After graduating college, she worked at The Ironton (Ohio) Tribune newspaper as a reporter and later became its managing editor. Griffey worked for two decades in Niles, Mich., as editor and later publisher of Leader Publications.
Leader Publications, The Ironton Tribune, The Natchez Democrat at The Post are affiliated with Boone Newspapers.
“I have worked with Jan throughout the years on a few projects here and there and have always been impressed by her skill, her knowledge and her professionalism,” Reeves said. “I am thrilled to welcome her to Vicksburg.”
In communities in which she’s previously lived and worked, she’s volunteered with the local United Way chapters, Chamber of Commerce and humane societies.
