A Mass of The Resurrection for John Barnes will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday Sept. 1, 2015, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The Revs. Malcolm O’Leary and Donald Murrin, SVD, will serve as co-celebrants. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery with Robbins Funeral Home in charge.

Visitation will be Monday afternoon in the funeral home chapel followed by the Rosary at 6 p.m.

Mr. Barnes died at home Thursday Aug. 27, 2015. He was 73.

He was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he attended school and graduated in 1961.

A noted local building contractor, Mr. Barnes was also active in the civic life of his community and served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He received the National Defense Service Medal; the Vietnam Service Medal; the Bronze Star; the Vietnam Campaign Medal; Good Conduct Medal; and designated as Expert with the Range Rifle M-16. He was a member of the American Legion Tyner-Ford Post 213 in Vicksburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathaniel Barnes, Sr. and Lubertha Burnett Barnes; a brother, Nathaniel Barnes, Jr. and three sisters, Sherry Barnes, Bertha Jean Barnes, and Malinda Rose Barnes.

He is survived by his wife, Judge Vicki Roach-Barnes of Vicksburg; two sons, Mykel Barnes and Mark Barnes, Sr., both of Grand Rapids, Mich.; a daughter, Bonita Barnes of Vicksburg; a sister, Leona Stringer of Vicksburg; two brothers, Henry Ray Barnes and Bobby Barnes, both of Washington, DC; three grandchildren and other relatives.
